Los Angeles County has one of the largest number of homeless people accounting to 60,000 people, according to the United Way. However, on Sunday morning more than 13,000 people came together to complete the annual five-kilometer walk to raise money and awareness for the cause. They joined Los Angeles Lakers all-star guard, Kobe Bryant, during the 7th annual United Way HomeWalk in Exposition Park. Bryant assured everybody that the walk was mainly for the purpose of helping others and inspiring one another to do good. Christine Marge, the director of housing & financial stability at
United Way of Greater Los Angeles, said that
organizers hoped to raise 1 million dollars from the day’s event. “All those funds will go right back out into the community to house over 1,000 people
who are sleeping on our streets who will soon be moved into permanent
housing,” she said.
Helping one another in this world is one of the greatest things people can do. To bring joy upon somebody else through one's simple actions for their common good is an unexplainable feeling. Every participant during the walk changed somebody's life that day and gave them an opportunity to a better living. To this cause and people they would be forever thankful for.
