"Dog Doesn’t Consider Itself Part Of Family"

The typical household dog is usually considered a part of the family by its members, but this particular canine has a different view on where he belongs. Local six-year old Golden Retriever, Pepper from Thomasville, GA explains the relationship he shares with the people who take care of him. He tells reporters that they are decent people, although they are not the ones he would like to have chosen as family. As a result of being adopted by force, Pepper isolates himself in the backyard to be as far as possible from the humans. He explains how loud and obnoxious they are, along with being glued to their phones all day. The lack of playful interaction between the dog and its family members are what distance themselves apart.

This news report satires a dog's view on its family, which is funny since an animal's opinions are never heard. What makes it interesting is the different take on views of family. Because dogs are an easy animal to love and cherish most family members consider them a part of their family, but the perspective of the pet is never perceived due to the automatic assumption that the feeling is mutual. Most people believe that the pet and owner share an equal amount of love towards one another, but that is not always true. In this case the dog feels unjustified due to its inability to choose who he belongs to. He does not feel like one of the family members due to the huge contrast in the family's interests and his own. The family likes to stay indoors and use the internet, while the dog wishes to play outside and run around. This point brings insight to a major issue in today's age. Through the constant use of cell phones important aspects of life are gone to waste or unnoticed. Pepper's voice is what attempts to make a change in society.

  1. I did my blog on this article also and I mentioned the same points. Dogs cannot express any feeling which sucks for them. Owners need to understand that a dog’s feelings will not be mutual all the time. One could hug their dog but the dog might want to run away. This article was written to make fun of that aspect. Wonderful Job, Astghik!

  2. As mentioned, people do assume that a dog loves them just as much as they love that dog. However, that is not always the case. I like that Astghik pointed out that a dog is taken into a home by force, I never thought of it that way. Although this is a satire blog, it points out a few very true points. Fantastic job!

  3. Many people may not realize, but dogs have feelings as well as humans. As they develop into a significant role in a family's life, they have to be considered part of the family. Despite being a satirical blog, I personally admire the fact that they interview the dog itself. Outstanding job, Astghik!

  4. Dogs never get the chance to express themselves; people do not consider their feelings, since dogs cannot speak. In the article, Pepper declares his family disregards and neglects him, as he is being interviewed. A dog needs to feel comfortable in their new home. Humans can be inconsiderate sometimes towards their pets, due to the fact that pets cannot communicate. Excellent job, Astghik!

  5. Astghik has interpreted the satirical news extremely accurately, in order to show the main message the article is trying to convey. As she explains, Pepper calling out the family can help improve society and shift their focus from the indoors and technology, to outdoor activities. Phenomenal choice in article and tremendous writing.

  6. This article clearly represents the failures existing in today's society. The comedic view presented by the dog offers a funny alternative to reading about the downfall of today's youth. In an indirect way, this article is able to leave a significant impact on it's readers, and it forces them to re-evaluate their current lives.

  7. Choosing the same article to do my blog post, our descriptions of the satirical news was similarly expressed. Knowing that dogs do not speak, the author described the new generation with a dogs perspective. He mentioned how the family is on their devices at all times. Astghik chose a interesting and funny news topic, and also did a fantastic job describing it.

  8. Absolutely love this satire the most because it is probably a thought that has crossed all pet owners' minds. Questions like - "What if my dog doesn't really love me?","I probably look like an idiot trying to talk to him", and so on arouse. We expect the assumable 'man's best friend' to regardlessly love his human forever. However, pets can have feelings of neglect as well. This topic really shook me because it made me question if my dog is offended by my busyness and lack of attention at times. This definitely made me wake up and consider my pet's emotions. Thank you Astghik for the enlightenment.

  9. This particular article featured on The Onion seemed to be quite popular this week for blog posts. I believe this is due to the comical point of view following the mind of a dog. The writer brought life and voice to an animal which caused a ginormous change out of the norm. Astghik did an amazing job capturing the essence of its satirical nature! Awesome blog post!
